Ylämaa Church

Ylämaa Church was designed by the architect and artist Ilmari Launis, and was inaugurated on the Feast of Pentecost in 1931. The altarpiece, “The Crucifixion”, was painted by Väinö Saikon in 1939. Antti Salmi also completed his frescoes and the engravings on the stained glass windows in the same year.

In 1975, a unique baptismal font formed from Ylämaa spectrolite was donated to the church, and in 1980 the church received the rug as a gift. Extensions to the church, in the form of a parish hall, kitchen and club facilities, were completed in 1986. The organ, manufactured by the Kangasalan factory, dates back to 1940.
