Hämeenlinna Church
Hämeenlinna church is the main church of Hämeenlinna-Vanaja parish. The church is located in the heart of Hämeenlinna, on the edge of the square. The church has seats for about 750 people and in addition 25 people in the church chapel. The brick, white-plastered church building was completed in 1798, and it was expanded with a bell tower in 1837 and wings in 1892. The church is the most stylish representative of Gustavian classicism in Finland. The architect was Louis Jean Deprez, court painter to King Gustav III. The altar painting depicts the Saviour’s appearance to Mary Magdalene.
