Haukkavuori Observation Tower
The Haukkavuori Observation Tower was originally designed by architect John Paatela as a water tower, in the Art Nouveau or Jugend style, and is located on the western edge of Kotkansaari. Construction began in 1914 but was interrupted by the Finnish Civil War, and only completed in 1920. The tower contains a café and an observation deck which provides excellent vistas of the town and of the Gulf of Finland as the top of the tower is 72m above sea level. The old reservoir has been converted into a unique art gallery where there are changing exhibitions throughout the year.
