Nature experiences in Kirkkonummi – forests, island atmosphere and rocky beaches
At Kirkkonummi, you can relax while enjoying wonderful nature experiences. Kirkkonummi offers visitors the opportunity to breathe in the fresh forest air, or to travel to the seaside to admire the rocky beaches and experience the authentic island atmosphere.
Pack your bike on the train and go on a nature trip to Porkkalanniemi! Porkkalanniemi is an easily accessible and unique nature destination, where you can find forest, sea and rocky beaches in one place. The area is an excellent day-hiking destination with trails and camp shelters, and there is also an observation tower. In the guest boat harbour of Porkkala Marina, you can enjoy the maritime atmosphere and the harbour’s comprehensive services effortlessly and comfortably.
Other wonderful natural destinations are Linlo island and the Meiko nature reserve. On Linlo island, you can experience the authentic archipelago atmosphere without a boat. The island is easily accessible and there are plenty of things to see and do on the outdoor trails. The island can be reached via a footbridge from Linlo’s small marina. There is an accessible fireplace at the end of the bridge on the island side. The trails of the Meiko nature reserve offer the atmosphere of the wilderness, there are routes for all kinds of walkers. The nature beyond the trails is mainly untouched wilderness.
Wonderful, charming cultural sites
In addition to amazing natural attractions, Kirkkonummi also has cultural treasures. These include the main library Fyyri, which received the prestigious Finlandia Award for Architecture, Hvitträsk’s internationally renowned National Romantic studio home, and the Ragvalds Museum Farm and its traditional yards which will especially delight history and architecture lovers.
Kirkkonummi’s manors are also a great opportunity to enjoy local services, music and art. Wohls manor is located in a wonderful natural environment on the shore of Humaljärvi, only 6 km from the centre of Kirkkonummi. The manor park is Kirkkonummi’s oldest, and a marked nature trail goes around the unique oak grove of the manor area. There are also plenty of other buildings in the area of the manor, for example a renovated stone warehouse from the 19th century.
Families with children can experience farm animals and nature moments at Rehndahl’s beautiful animal farm, where you can pet and get to know the happy animals. The farm has plenty of other things to admire, such as beautiful nature with its rugged cliffs.
Activities in Kirkkonummi
In addition to the activities offered by nature attractions, there is something for energetic adventurers to do regardless of the season! At Kirkkonummi you can play golf, ride a horse, paddle or enjoy various guided services. You can swim either in the sea or in one of the many lakes. An active traveller can also exercise in sports parks, skateboard or cycle along the South by Cycle route. For lovers of golf, Kirkkonummi has four golf courses that are among the best in the country.
In the middle of a cultural tour or an active day of adventure, visitors can stop for a tasty break in an atmospheric cafe, shop at village boutiques or have lunch at Casa Daroma. At the end of the excursion day, you can have a lovely dinner at Bistro O Mat or Porkkala Marina.
Kirkkonummi has a lively calendar of events. The highlights of the summer are Maatilapuoti‘s Summer Fair at the beginning of July. Maatilapuoti’s Summer Fair has a program for the whole family during the whole weekend. Visitors can drive a tractor, or discover the fairytale trail, the haunted labyrinth, or the Blacksmith’s shed. They can also stop by a craft stall, an art exhibition, a flea market and eat waffles and sausage. At the end of summer, the traditional Kirkkonummi Days festival is organised in Kirkkonummi.

Kirkkonummi is located along the highways, only half an hour’s drive from the metropolitan region. You can experience all of Kirkkonummi with your own car! In addition, Kirkkonummi can be reached conveniently and quickly with the commuter trains of the HSL area.
