Hotel Katajanokka
The Hotel Katajanokka is a modern and comfortable hotel, located in a historic prison setting in Katajanokka, downtown Helsinki. The building served as a county prison and pre-trial detention center until 2002. The central corridor, outside walls and surrounding high walls serve as a reminder of the buildings colorful history. The former prison opened as a hotel in May 2007.
The thick red brick walls house 106 comfortable and quite rooms. The hotel restaurant, Jailbird, pampers guests with a hearty breakfast. You will get a feel of the former prison atmosphere enjoying your coffee out of a tin mug. Enjoy delicious lunches and dinners in the Jailbird restaurant. The hotel also has a casual beer & games room with flat screen TV.
The Hotel Katajanokka is also a fascinating setting for organizing meetings and events. The restored chapel ballroom and four brick-walled conference rooms equipped with modern technology provide memorable settings for events. The hotel is surrounded by the lush and spacious Linnanpuisto Park. It is best enjoyed in the summer, when one can sit on the terrace, enjoying a leisurely breeze and the sounds of the city.
