Green Window & Villa Aurora Nuuksio – Experience the Finnish Wilderness
Providing a wide range of services, Green Window and the Forest Hotel Aurora Nuuksio have the distinction of being the only company to be based within the boundaries of Nuuksio National Park. Situated in the Kattila area, in the heart of Nuuksio and by a lake, it is just 35km from Helsinki. The picturesque Kaitlampi lake, valleys and hills surrounding Kattila offer excellent opportunities for outdoor activities and excursions.
As well as serving groups, Green Window also provides tailored packages for individual travellers. With over 30 years of experience in guided excursions, the activities that Aurora Nuuksio organises includes forest treks themed around, for example, picking mushrooms, wild herbs, and wild berries, guided canoeing trips on the lakes, and fishing trips with expert fishermen. There are guided orienteering hikes using proper compasses – forget about your GPS! – that are perfect for budding nature photographers.
Accommodation is provided in Aurora Nuuksio Forest Hotel, a 1930‘s villa on a hilltop, commanding an excellent view over a vast valley and a beautiful forest lake. The hotel has 7 + 1 rooms, for 16 +2 guests. For corporate guests there is a main hall which seats 45 persons, a large terrace for 30 people, and the upstairs’ semi-circular lounge for smaller groups of up to 10. Both the lounge and the main hall offer an inspiring setting for events, meetings, and conferences.
There is also the delightfully rustic Valkalampi House, with 4 bedrooms providing accommodation for 16. Close by the house, on the lake shore, there is a traditional Finnish wood heated sauna with a pier inviting guests to take a dip in the Valklampi lake. By the lake there is also an open campfire place for the private use of house guests. The main hall of the house can facilitate events for up to 45 persons; for meetings there are data projectors, internet connection, white screen and board available. Valklampi House can be rented for corporate or private use, on a per hour, day or week basis.
The award winning Forest Restaurant Aurora Nuuksio can be reserved for groups, and specialises in traditional Finnish delicacies. The chefs are experts in creating tasty and visually appealing meals from locally sourced ingredients. Examples include the fresh mushroom soups prepared using mushrooms from the Nuuksio forest, grilled and smoked fresh water fish from the lakes, grilled game tenderloin, and freshly baked berry pies. Meals can be themed according to season, for example autumn mushrooms and game, Finnish Christmas specialties, spring asparagus feast, summer berries and vegetables, crayfish party or local traditional food. Catering services are offered in all Kattila and Valklampi premises, with the chefs happy to create special menus suited to anything from a forest lunch cooked over an open fire to a 9-course gala dinner!
Guests can also choose to dine in the traditional Kattila Lappish Hut, a Finnish teepee-style timber hut with 3 open fireplaces, which can seat up to 70 people on reindeer furs at wooden tables. This special space is sure to provide an exotic and memorable experience.
