Hyvinkää Art Museum

The Hyvinkää Art Museum was founded in 1982. The museum is located in the city centre in the Jussintori business centre. The building was completed in 1981 and it was designed by architects Ilmo and Raimo Valjakka. The business and cultural centre, which is made of light clinker, is a significant part of the cityscape. The building represents the soft architecture of the 1980s with its plastic roof structures and rounded corners.

Art is closely connected to the traditions of Hyvinkää. Central works of Helene Schjerfbeck (1862–1946) and Tyko Sallinen (1879–1955) were created in Hyvinkää. Painters Jalmari Ruokokoski (1886–1936), Anton Lindforss (1890–1943), Yrjö Saarinen (1899–1958) and sculptor Terho Sakki (1930–1997) have also lived and worked in Hyvinkää. A vibrant art scene is still a strong characteristic of Hyvinkää. Quite a few professional artists live and work here.
