Inari Hiking Area
Covering an impressive 1215 sq.km of wilderness, Inari Hiking Area offers nature enthusiasts and visitors to Lapland something new to see and to do on every visit. The area is also a valuable resource for locals who rely somewhat on fishing for their nutritional needs, as well as being the centre of their recreational activities.
Lake Inarijärvi and the surrounding hills and fells are an excellent starting point for exploring the wilderness-like nature of northern Lapland. Tourism companies bring their customers to Inari all year round. In total, about 200 000 visits are made every year to the area.
Metsähallitus has proposed the establishment of Inari Hiking Area as a state hiking area.
