Museum of Kymenlaakso
The Museum of Kymenlaakso is part of the organisation of the City of Kotka. It is to record, study, preserve and present the material and intellectual cultural legacy of Kotka and the entire region of Kymenlaakso. Information services and work of the regional archaeologist cover the entire region.
The foremost themes of the main exhibition “Flow” are efficiency as well as the relationship between an individual and the community. These themes are approached from a number of angles, and the topics covered include perception of time, significance of money, boundaries and crossing them, intensification in all sectors of life, and on the other hand the relaxing things: leisure time, spending time at a summer cottage, trips to islands, all types of joy of life.
The Coast Guard Museum is part of the main exhibition of the Museum of Kymenlaakso and the result of co-operation between the Finnish Border Guard and City of Kotka launched in 1999. The Coast Guard Museum provides an extensive review of the history of maritime operations and equipment of the Finnish Border Guard, from the prohibition era to the present day.
