Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park
Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park is located in Finnish Lapland, stretching across the municipalities of Enontekiö, Muonio, Kittilä, and Kolari. This vast area of protected wilderness lies in the heart of western Lapland, offering some of Finland’s most iconic fell scenery.
The landscape is defined by gently rising fells surrounded by untouched forests and mires. The silhouette of the fells is a constant presence, visible from nearly every angle, and the terrain is both clean and varied, contributing to the area’s striking natural beauty. The picturesque Pallastunturi Fells are so renowned for their charm that they have been designated one of Finland’s official national landscapes.
Pallas–Yllästunturi is Finland’s third-largest national park. It was formed by combining the former Pallas–Ounastunturi National Park with the Ylläs–Aakenus Nature Reserve, effectively doubling its size. The southernmost fell in the chain, Yllästunturi, lies just outside the park boundaries and serves as a popular ski resort. The highest point in the park is Taivaskero Fell, which rises to 807 metres. In the north, the scenery opens up to the softly undulating upland terrain of the Ounastunturi Fells.
