Rokua National Park
Rokua National Park is located in Northern Finland, between the cities of Oulu and Kajaani. It sits on the southern side of Rokuanvaara Hill, part of a unique landscape shaped by the last Ice Age.
The terrain consists mainly of sandy eskers and dry pine forests, making it ideal for multi-day hikes on easy trails. The bright white lichen covering the ground gives the forest a distinctive look. Scattered across the park are small, clear lakes, ancient shoreline embankments from the early Baltic Sea, and deep kettle holes known as suppa, formed as glaciers melted.
The National Park is home to some of the northernmost habitats for rare and endangered species that thrive in esker environments.
