Tavastila Local History Museum

The Tavastila Local History Museum is located along the Mynäjoki river in the grounds of the medieval Alasjoki manor, the birthplace of Finland’s most famous medieval bishop, Maunu II Tavasti. The current main building was completed in the middle of the 19th century. The building housed a school between 1882 and 1954.

In addition to the main building, the courtyard has a coffee house and a 19th-century windmill brought from Lokalahti. The museum has more than 3,000 objects donated by the villagers in its collections. The museum’s permanent exhibitions feature objects related to the school, handicrafts, household and farming. In the museum’s winter exhibition space, there are changing exhibitions during the summer.
