The Veljmies statue is the sculptor Heikki Konttinen’s bronze sculpture dating from 1959. It is located on the Kuopio marketplace, on the eastern end of the mall, surrounded by a shower pad.
Konttinen won the Kuopio Private Entrepreneurs’ Invitational Competition, which was organized in 1957, based on which the statue was executed. It was a gift for entrepreneurs to a 175-year-old city of Kuopio.
