Villa Kokkonen by the World-Renowned Architect Alvar Aalto
Nestled in the scenic landscape of Vanhankylänniemi, on the shores of Lake Tuusula, Villa Kokkonen is set to open as a new cultural attraction in the summer of 2025. Designed by Alvar Aalto, this modernist artist’s residence was completed in 1969 as a home and workspace for composer Joonas Kokkonen (1921–1996). For the first time the entire Villa Kokkonen will open to the public for the summer season from May 3, 2025 through the end of September. VIlla Kokkonen offers a unique glimpse into Finnish architecture and the life of one of the country’s most celebrated composers. Open from May to September, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Guided tours will be available daily from Tuesday to Sunday at 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM in Finnish, and at 2:00 PM in English. Additionally, group tours (minimum 10 people) can be booked in advance at 3:30 PM. The Composer’s Home Tour connects Villa Kokkonen with Ainola, the former home of Jean and Aino Sibelius, culminating in a musical performance in Kokkonen’s studio that brings the composer’s world to life.
