By far the greatest attraction in the region is the landscape itself; there are over 3,000 lakes and ponds, some of the oldest forests in Finland, Riisitunturi National Park and the wild Korouoma ice falls. Other attractions include the Ethnographic Museum of the Posio Municipality, Akanlahti log dispatching facility, Pentik-mäki Culture Center and Timisjärvi Art Center. The unique tourist trail, Wilderness Farmer’s Path, comprises 35 roadside information boards that describe the skills, living conditions and thoughts of the inhabitants of Posio in the early 20th century. Additionally, information boards can be found in every village in the Posio Municipality.
